How to choose the polyacrylamide model in acidic and alkaline environment?

2019-08-07

Generally speaking, anionic polyacrylamide is suitable for neutral and alkaline environments, while cationic polyacrylamide and non-ionic polyacrylamide are suitable for acidic and neutral environments. Different flocculants can be used in different pH environments, which is directly related to their molecular structure.

Anionic polyacrylamide is suitable for alkaline and neutral environments, and has a better flocculation effect on systems with positive surface charge of solid particles. Anionic polyacrylamide has a wide range of applications, and most of them on the market are weakly anionic, with a hydrolysis degree of about 26%. Non-ionic flocculants are suitable for systems with low net charge on the surface of solid particles, and can generally be used for acidic or nearly neutral water!

For cationic polyacrylamide, because of its positive charge in aqueous solution, it can flocculate and precipitate suspended matter containing negative charge rapidly. Under acidic conditions, organic matter is easy to combine hydrogen ions, but the hydroxyl, carboxyl and amide groups in them still have electronegativity, as well as hydrogen bonding can occur, so it is easy to act with cationic polyacrylamide, while the quaternary ammonium salt ions of cationic flocculants are not too firmly bound to the plasmons, and still act with large organic matter. However, if the acidity is too strong, the effect will be lost. If the acidity is strong, polymeric aluminum chloride can be added first, because polymeric aluminum chloride is alkaline can play a neutralizing role, and at the same time, polymeric aluminum chloride can flocculate the suspended particles in acidic wastewater into fine flocs, and then add flocculants can better play the role of flocculation and precipitation.

In the acidic and alkaline environment, manufacturers use polymeric aluminum chloride alone, think that after adding polymeric aluminum chloride and other inorganic flocculants, then add polymeric flocculants is more trouble, and the unit price of polyacrylamide is higher. From the surface, polyacrylamide is more expensive, but the molecular weight is high, as long as the selection is appropriate, the amount is generally very small, and the formation of large flocs, fast settling speed, clear water, its comprehensive price is higher than polymeric aluminum chloride. Therefore, our company recommends the use of polymeric aluminum chloride with polyacrylamide, can play the best water treatment effect, please consult the technical department of Gongyi Jinyuan Chemical.
