Polyaluminum chloride-iron has no taste in water, and disinfectants are ineffective at removing it. Since it’s inherently odorless, any lingering unpleasant smell in the water after treatment is likely due to the disinfectant itself. After all, polyaluminum chloride-iron itself is odorless and couldn’t possibly emit a pungent, nose-stinging odor that others could detect.
Xintai Group will explain the polyaluminum chloride-iron wastewater treatment and filtration method.
Xintai Group: Does polyaluminum chloride ferric have any unusual odor?
Polyaluminum chloride-iron has no taste in water, and disinfectants are ineffective at removing it—thus, it should be odorless. Therefore, any unusual smell remaining in the water after treatment is likely due to the disinfectant itself. Since polyaluminum chloride-iron itself is odorless and cannot possibly emit a pungent odor that others might notice, this explanation makes perfect sense. Hence, the culprit is probably the disinfectant’s scent. Take, for example, the bleach powder most people use—it’s undoubtedly irritating and can stimulate the taste buds, making you perceive its sharp aroma. Alternatively, it could be the smell of organic impurities present in the water. In any case, it’s definitely not the result of using polyaluminum chloride-iron or similar products. Therefore, we recommend trying out a different disinfectant to see if the issue persists. If the problem still remains, then the source of the odor must be the impurities in the water. We suggest adding an activated carbon adsorption step to address this. It’s also possible that the polyaluminum chloride-iron you’ve purchased is defective. We strongly advise buying polyaluminum chloride-iron from reputable manufacturers—professional companies with decades of production experience. Such manufacturers have undergone years of rigorous certification and accreditation, making them truly reliable and worthy of your trust.
This particularly reminds us that bleach powder is not suitable for drinking water. We recommend ozone disinfection instead. Since bleach powder has certain irritant properties and can be harmful to our health, we must pay close attention to this issue. If you absolutely need to add bleach powder, do so in appropriate amounts, following the instructions provided in the product’s manual.
Xintai Group: Polyaluminum Chloride-Ferric Coagulation and Filtration Method for Wastewater Treatment
When using polyaluminum ferric chloride to treat wastewater, there are four filtration methods:
1. Gratings are used for filtration, with bar screens or mesh screens serving as the filtration medium. Typical equipment includes grates, screen meshes, and microfilters, which are employed to remove coarse suspended solids such as weeds, scraps of cloth, fibers, pulp, and the like.
II. Membrane filtration technologies include reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and electrodialysis. These systems employ additional semi-permeable membranes as the filtration medium and operate under a specific driving force (such as pressure or electric field). Due to their small pore sizes and high selectivity, these membranes can effectively remove bacteria, viruses, organic compounds, and dissolved solutes from water.
3. Deep filtration is employed, using granular filter media such as quartz sand and anthracite. Due to the pores between the filter particles, wastewater passes through the filter layer at a certain depth, during which suspended solids in the water are retained.
4. Microfiltration using molded filter materials—such as filter cloths, filter discs, sintered filter tubes, honeycomb filter elements, and others—can also be pre-coated with a filter aid (e.g., diatomaceous earth) to form a fine-pored filter cake that effectively removes fine particles. Polyaluminum ferric chloride (PAC) has been developed based on an in-depth study of the hydrolysis and coagulation mechanisms of PAC as well as those of ferric oxide, aluminum salts, and ferrous salts. It combines the advantages of both aluminum- and iron-based coagulants and introduces polyvalent anions—sulfate ions—that improve the speciation of aluminum and iron ions, significantly enhancing the degree of polymerization. In terms of appearance, the liquid product is a brown or reddish-brown transparent solution without any sediment. The powdered or granular product is brown or reddish-brown and readily soluble in water. It can be used for treating drinking water, industrial water, industrial wastewater, and municipal sewage. The coagulation process characterized by reduced residual turbidity and color, formation of bulky flocs, strong adsorption capacity, and excellent sludge filtration and dewatering performance. Particularly when treating waters with high turbidity or low-temperature, low-turbidity waters, its treatment effectiveness surpasses that of alum, polyaluminum chloride, polyferric sulfate, and ferric oxide.
